Smrt?
On the way home from work today, I was talking to Bobbie Jo and remarking at how smart Max is. As we were having this conversation, Max leaned against the toy chest to watch tv. He fell in and "got stuck".

Happy Halloween!
This was the year. The year that Max was totally jazzed to go trick-or-treating.
We practiced on Saturday:
He took to the whole thing immediately, thanking every person who gave him candy, and then reaching into the bowl to grab a few extra pieces. It was an absolute blast. Seeing his enjoyment of the evening; This is what being a parent is all about.
I tried out some new carving techniques this year, and while they took me MUCH longer than ever before, I was pretty thrilled with the results. How anyone carves a pumpkin without a Dremel tool is beyond me.
Kinda makes me wish I could carve pumpkins more frequently than just for Halloween....
We practiced on Saturday:James: "Max, what do you say when you go up to somebody's door on Halloween?"He had initially wanted to be the Cat in the Hat, then a train conductor, and at the last minute decided to be a pumpkin, because "pumpkins stand for Halloween". Bobbie Jo scrambled to find the costume, and Max made the cutest pumpkin around.
Max: "Can I please have some candy?"
James: "That's very nice, but how about 'Trick-or-treat'?"
Max: "Okay Daddy. Trick-or-treat".

The Big (big big big) Screen
On Thursday, October 28th, at 5:35pm, in theater 8 at the Woodland Cinema, Max saw his first movie on the Big Screen. While he grew a bit restless after the first hour, he was very well behaved, and loved every bit of Toy Story 3.

October 9 - First Day in AZ
I told Ben I wanted to see some desert or something, so he and I loaded up Max and made the "15 minute" journey* to see us some mountains.
Max was up at 4:15 this morning, it would take him days to adjust to the time change. He slept through the mountains.

After returning to Ben and Angie's, and after Max finished his nap, we spent some time by the pool. Max did not want to get in, but had a blast with his pirate ship that Uncle Ben filled with water.

Some time in front of the tube, and bed.*Over the week that we spent in AZ, I realized that Ben has no concept of travel time. Every destination was always "15 minutes" from the starting point, though usually took longer. For example; the mountain trip on October 9, was a 45 minute drive.

October 8 - Arizona bound!!
Max had been talking about it for months; his first ride in an airplane to visit Uncle Ben. The day had finally arrived. We packed our allotted suitcases to the brim, loaded the laptop with every Pixar movie we could, and attempted (and failed) to fill Max with Benedryl.
Max was extremely well behaved the entire flight. He watched his videos, ate his snacks, and was still full of energy when we landed in Mesa. Uncle Ben picked us up at the airport, posed with Max for a quick blurry picture, and we headed off to Ben and Angie's awesome place in Chandler.

Boy day (continued)
I wrote earlier about Home Depot's "Kids Workshop". We were given a fireboat kit on Saturday, and Max woke up from his nap excited to put it together with Daddy. We put on Max's new Home Depot apron, and stacked the pieces of wood into a tower. While I did do most of the assembly, Max actually pounded in ALL of the nails in the project (with his plastic hammer). I was amazed.
We'll be at every Kid's Workshop from now on. Building with Max, doesn't get much better than that!!

Boy day
I was at Home Depot on Saturday morning as the parking lot was filling with firetrucks. Apparently it was "Fire Safety Day" until 2pm. With Max's obsession with all things with sirens, and his desire to be a Firefighter when he grows up, I knew I needed to bring him back to see them.
When I brought him back a few hours later, there were three firetrucks and an ambulance waiting for us. After much re-assurance that the sirens would NOT be on (he'll proudly tell everyone that he is afraid of sirens) we made for the biggest one. He met a few firemen, was given a "Junior Firefighter Badge" (sticker) and a plastic fireman's helmet. He sat in the driver's seat of it, but quickly became scared and wanted out. We wandered around for awhile, saw the ambulance, got some popcorn, and Max decided that he had enough.
We stopped into the store, as Home Depot has a "Kids Workshop" on the first Saturday of each month. The session was over, but they were nice enough to give Max his very own Home Depot apron, and a fire boat that we could build at home.
I needed to stop by the office to restart one of our servers, and knew that Max would love seeing the construction equipment in our parking lot. I tried to get him to climb on some of the equipment, my responsible child thought that would be a bad idea. We took a few pictures, ran through a huge puddle, and went home to change..and nap.
